Tech RRT Capacity Strengthening Webinar Series: Is there a significant difference? An introduction to comparing nutrition survey results

Topic: During past deployments by the Tech RRT Assessment Advisor, it was observed that organizations would like to compare results from surveys, either from within one survey or between different surveys, such as GAM for males vs females, but are not sure when it is appropriate to do so and how to do it in order to determine if there is a significant difference. The Centers for Disease and Control and Prevention (CDC) free calculator has made this process much easier with an excel sheet that is user friendly.
The webinar will include the following points of discussion:
· Brief overview of the Tech RRT
· What is the CDC calculator and the different functions
· Comparing nutrition survey result indicators within one survey (examples)
· When it is appropriate to compare survey results of two surveys (representative sample surveys vs convenience sample surveys)
· Comparing nutrition survey result indicators between two surveys (examples)
The webinar will be an interactive exercise and examples will be provided for the above topics. At the conclusion of the webinar, participants will have a basic understanding of how to use the CDC calculator to determine whether or not there is a statistically significant difference when comparing indicators.
Required Software for webinar: Microsoft excel CDC calculator which will be provided to confirmed participants before the webinar.
Background on the project: The Technical Rapid Response Team (Tech RRT) is a partnership between International Medical Corps, Save the Children and Action Against Hunger working in close collaboration with the Global Nutrition Cluster and UNICEF, funded by USAID/OFDA. The purpose of the Tech RRT is to improve the quality of nutrition humanitarian response by deploying technical experts, providing remote support and building the capacity of nutrition partners while national capacity is overstretched or inexperienced in nutrition in emergencies.
