The Tech RRT team have released the document “Principles and questions for consideration before deploying Tech RRT Advisors during the COVID-19 pandemic” to support decision making for deployments during the pandemic.
Following the evolution of the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020 governments and global institutions put in place border controls and travel restrictions in order to fight the spread of COVID-19. This meant that humanitarian operations were restricted, including a sudden halt to international travel (from approximately mid-March 2020).
On top of international border restrictions, all Tech RRT partner agencies (AAH-USA, AAH-CA, IMC and Save the Children) currently have international travel restrictions in place. Only AAH-USA is currently allowing essential travel.
However, nutrition emergencies and the need for technical support persists, and therefore the Tech RRT must be ready to support, both remotely and in-country when possible. As the situation evolves organisational travel policies will evolve, and the Tech RRT need to be ready to decide when a deployment is required and feasible.
The document intends outline criteria that could be used to inform decisions about whether a Tech RRT deployment should take place and which Advisor could be deployed.
